Social prescribing

Social prescribing link workers are based in GP practices and work closely with the NHS and other health and care services. They take time to understand what matters to you and can help you find support for issues that may affect your health and wellbeing but may not need medical treatment. This could include loneliness, isolation, financial difficulties, low mood or other practical and social concerns.

Social prescribing can connect you with local community groups, activities and services that support physical and mental wellbeing. This might include physical activity, walking or outdoor activities, social groups, volunteering, support with loneliness or mental wellbeing, or help with practical issues such as housing, finances or employment.

For people living with persistent pain or other MSK problems, a social prescriber may be able to help you find activities and support that build confidence, increase activity and improve your overall wellbeing alongside your MSK care. If you would like to access social prescribing support, speak to your GP practice about what is available in your area.
